Traditional religions all have the same basic model: interpretation of the law. They each start with a basic, immutable set of premises, and then from those premises, analogical and deductive reasoning is applied to arrive at additional truths and an expanded set of rules.
Gnostic faiths prize intuitive knowledge over analytically based theology. The basic premise is that metaphysical truth is deeply ingrained in the collective consciousness of humanity. The way to ‘remember’ these truths is to discipline your thought processes to become less reactive. In doing so, you play less the role of the reactive thinker, and more the role of the receptive witness. The more adeptly you play the role of the receptive witness, the more you perceive the spiritual truths that underlie existence.
It is not that reason and intuition are mutually exclusive. On the contrary, they reinforce one another. But the faculty that leads in the pursuit of metaphysical truth is clarity of mind. It is the ultimate validator.
This validation manifests itself in the character of the individual. The more spiritually attuned individual exudes a calm and grounded energy. His presence engenders a subtle sense of order. The less attuned individual comes off as anxious and frantic. His presence engenders an unsettling sense of chaos.
