"To understand all is to forgive all." Is this the saying that captures everything? Metaphysics in one sentence? The purpose of man in one sentence? It highlights the pivotal role of empathetic knowledge in a phenomenon that is unknown to the ego. Is true forgiveness- absolution for nothing, the ultimate act of generosity- the only thing that the ego cannot fathom? The ego must 'know'. It must reason uncertainty into certainty, however fallacious the logic. But an awareness of something from the standpoint of empathy without analysis and a judgment is outside of its purview. The pure witness.

It may seem like a trivial distinction, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Forgiveness, born through empathy, without judgment, is the ultimate generosity. Food, money, shelter- all great things to give- but what more precious luxury is there than being granted permission to let go of your burdens and be fully present in the moment? Fully present in the moment- Heaven in my religion, enlightenment for the stoics, a state of being valued across the philosophies of the East for millennia. To understand all is to forgive all.
